- O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
- Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
- When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
- What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
- For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
- Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
- All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
- The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
- O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
Psalm 8 – Prayer
O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth! You have set Your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babes and infants, You have ordained strength because of Your enemies, that You might still the enemy and the avenger.
When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars which You have ordained, I am in awe. What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels and have crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion over the works of Your hands and have put all things under his feet: all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! I praise You for Your magnificent creation and for the honor You have bestowed upon humanity. Help me to live in a way that reflects Your glory and honors the dominion You have entrusted to us.
In Jesus’ name, I pray.
Amen.
Psalm 8 – Poem
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic Your name,
In all the earth, Your glory we proclaim.
Above the heavens, Your splendor soars,
In every star, Your greatness pours.
From the lips of children, pure and small,
You ordain strength, You answer our call.
Against our foes, to silence their cries,
In the innocence of youth, Your wisdom lies.
When I gaze upon the night sky’s span,
The work of Your fingers, the wonders so grand,
The moon and stars, in their appointed place,
I ponder Your love, Your infinite grace.
What is man, that You are mindful of him,
Mere mortals, yet Your care does not dim?
You made us just below angels’ might,
Crowned with glory and honor bright.
You gave us dominion over all that You’ve made,
Every creature, in field and glade.
The birds of the air, the fish of the sea,
In Your vast creation, You entrusted to me.
O Lord, our Lord, how majestic Your name,
In all the earth, Your glory we acclaim.
From dawn’s first light to evening’s fall,
In Your eternal love, we stand tall.
Amen.
