Psalm 4 – KJV

  1. Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
  2. O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
  3. But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the Lord will hear when I call unto him.
  4. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
  5. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.
  6. There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
  7. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
  8. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4 – Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness. You have relieved me in my times of distress; have mercy upon me and listen to my prayer. Lord, I see how the sons of men turn Your glory into shame, loving vanity and seeking falsehood. Help me to stay true to You and not be swayed by the empty pursuits of this world.

I know that You have set apart the godly for Yourself, and You hear me when I call unto You. Let me stand in awe of Your greatness and sin not. As I lie down to rest, may I commune with my own heart and be still, reflecting on Your goodness and mercy.

I offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put my trust in You, O Lord. In a world where many ask, “Who will show us any good?” lift up the light of Your countenance upon us. You have filled my heart with gladness, more than when their grain and wine increased.

I will both lay me down in peace and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. Thank You for Your protection and for the peace that comes from knowing You are always with me.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

Psalm 4 – Poem

In the quiet of the night, when shadows fall,

A whispering plea, to the heavens we call.

O God of righteousness, hear our cry,

In our distress, to You we sigh.

Grant us relief from this earthly strain,

And in Your mercy, ease our pain.

When others doubt and turn away,

With steadfast faith, to You we pray.

The world may seek false dreams that gleam,

But in Your truth, we find our beam.

You light our path with joy and grace,

In Your embrace, we find our place.

O Lord, lift the light of Your countenance,

Upon us, grant peace, a serene expanse.

In the calm of Your eternal love,

We rest assured, our hearts above.

For in You alone, true safety lies,

Our shelter strong, beneath the skies.

In peace, we lay and sleep secure,

For Your presence, ever pure.

Amen.
