  1. Lord, and against his anointed, saying,
  2. Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
  3. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
  4. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
  5. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
  6. I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
  7. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
  8. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
  9. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
  10. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
  11. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

Psalm 2 – Prayer

Almighty God,

I come before You in awe of Your majesty and power. Why do the nations rage and the people imagine vain things? The kings and rulers of the earth set themselves against You and Your anointed, seeking to break free from Your guidance. But You, O Lord, who sits in the heavens, shall laugh and hold them in derision.

In Your righteous wrath, You will speak to them and vex them in Your sore displeasure. Yet, You have set Your King upon Your holy hill of Zion. You have declared the decree: You have said to Him, “Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.” I am grateful for this assurance and the promise of Your Son’s reign.

You have promised Him the nations for His inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for His possession. He shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel. Teach us to be wise, O Lord, and to be instructed as judges of the earth.

May we serve You with fear and rejoice with trembling. Let us honor and revere the Son, lest He be angry and we perish from the way when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all who put their trust in Him.

I place my trust in You, O Lord. Guide me, protect me, and help me to walk in Your ways. Let my life reflect Your glory and bring honor to Your name.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

Psalm 2 – Poem

The Sovereign King

Why do the nations rage with pride, And plot in vain, side by side? The kings and rulers take their stand, Against the Lord’s anointed hand.

“Let us break their chains,” they cry, “And cast away their cords; defy!” But He who sits in heaven laughs, Their futile schemes, like broken staffs.

In wrath He speaks, His voice resounds, His anger shakes the earthly grounds. “I’ve set My King on Zion’s hill, My holy mountain, by My will.”

The decree declared the Lord did say, “You are My Son; this very day, I have begotten You, My own, Ask, and nations will be Your throne.”

“You shall break them with an iron rod, Shatter them like pottery flawed.” Therefore, be wise, O kings, take heed, Judges of earth, your ways recede.

Serve the Lord with fear, be just, Rejoice with trembling, in Him trust. Kiss the Son, lest anger wakes, And perishing from wrath, partake.

Blessed are those who refuge find, In the Son, with heart and mind. The Sovereign King, His reign assured, In Him, forever, we are secured.
