Psalm 16 – KJV

1 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.
2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;
3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.
4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.
5 The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.
7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalm 16 – Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Preserve me, O God, for in Thee do I put my trust. Thou art my refuge and my strength, my portion, and my cup. I have said unto the Lord, “Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to Thee.” Guide me in Thy ways, O Lord, and teach me to delight in Thy blessings, for in Thy presence is fullness of joy.

I give thanks unto Thee for the inheritance Thou hast prepared for me. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. Thou maintainest my lot, and my soul resteth securely in Thee. I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

I have set the Lord always before me: because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt Thou suffer Thine Holy One to see corruption.

Show me the path of life, O Lord, and lead me in Thy righteousness. In Thy presence is the fullness of joy; at Thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore. Let my heart be steadfast, my mind fixed upon Thee, and my soul anchored in the hope of Thy salvation. I shall not seek after other gods, for only in Thee do I find peace and rest.

Psalm 16 – Poem

O Lord, my heart is lifted unto Thee,
For in Thy light doth my soul rejoice.
Thou hast made the heavens with Thy hand,
And the earth is full of Thy wondrous works.

The morning breaketh and Thy mercies are new;
Thy compassions fail not, yea, they endure forever.
The birds of the air sing praises unto Thee,
And the hills are girded with gladness.

Thou art a shield about me, O Lord;
In Thee is my strength and my strong refuge.
Thou makest the path of the righteous plain,
And leadest them in the way everlasting.

The mighty waves of the sea obey Thy command,
And the winds do bow before Thy majesty.
Thou hast clothed the lilies of the field,
And numbered the stars by Thy wisdom.

Teach me, O Lord, to walk in Thy truth;
Incline mine ear to the statutes of Thy law.
For Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
And a light unto my path all my days.

The heavens declare Thy glory, O God,
And the firmament showeth Thy handiwork.
Blessed be Thy name forever and ever,
For Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.
