Psalm 15
1 Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle?
who shall dwell in thy holy hill?
2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness,
and speaketh the truth in his heart.
3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue,
nor doeth evil to his neighbour,
nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.
4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned;
but he honoureth them that fear the Lord.
He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
5 He that putteth not out his money to usury,
nor taketh reward against the innocent.
He that doeth these things shall never be moved.
This psalm is a poetic reflection on the qualities and conduct expected of those who seek to live in God’s presence.
Psalm 15 -Prayer
O Lord, who may dwell in Your holy presence?
Who may abide upon Your sacred hill?
Grant that I may walk uprightly and live in righteousness,
speaking truth from a sincere heart.
Help me, Lord, to guard my tongue,
to refrain from speaking harm or deceit,
and to show kindness and respect to my neighbors.
Give me a discerning spirit,
to honor those who revere You,
and to resist the influence of wrongdoing.
May I keep my promises even when it costs me,
standing firm in honesty and faithfulness.
Teach me not to seek gain at the expense of others,
and to resist unjust rewards against the innocent.
Lord, may I hold fast to these principles,
so that I may dwell securely in Your presence,
unmoved and steadfast in Your grace.
Amen.
Psalm 15 – Poem
Lord, who may dwell within Your tent,
On holy hill, in pure content?
The one who walks in righteousness,
Whose words are true, whose heart is blessed.
Who harms not others with deceit,
Nor spreads unkindness when they speak.
They shun the vile, yet honor those
Who fear the Lord, whom God bestows.
They keep their word, though it may sting,
Unchanged by loss, unwavering.
They lend with care, take no reward
For harming lives they can’t afford.
Who lives like this, so firm, so free,
Shall dwell with God eternally.
