  1. Help, Lord; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men.
  2. They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.
  3. The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:
  4. Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?
  5. For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the Lord; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him.
  6. The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
  7. Thou shalt keep them, O Lord, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
  8. The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

Psalm 12 – Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Help, Lord, for the godly seem to disappear and the faithful vanish from among the children of men. So many speak vanity with their neighbors; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak deceitfully.

Lord, You have promised to cut off all flattering lips and tongues that speak proud things. Those who say, “With our tongue we will prevail; our lips are our own; who is lord over us?” remind us that You are indeed Lord over all.

For the oppression of the poor and the sighing of the needy, You have said, “Now will I arise.” You will set them in safety from those who mock them. Your words, O Lord, are pure words, like silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

Keep us, O Lord, and preserve us from this generation forever. The wicked prowl on every side, when vileness is exalted among men. But we trust in Your promise to protect and deliver us.

Help us to be faithful and true in our words and deeds. Let us reflect Your purity and righteousness in a world full of deceit and pride. Arise, O Lord, and defend the cause of the oppressed and the needy. Let Your pure words and Your steadfast love be our guide and strength.

In Jesus’ name, I pray.

Amen.

Psalm 12 – Poem

A Cry for Purity

Help us, Lord, the faithful fade, The godly dwindle, hearts dismayed. Vanity and flattery spread, With double hearts, deceit is bred.

Flattering lips, proud tongues declare, “Who is lord? We’ll not despair.” But You, O Lord, will cut them off, Their boasting words, their proud and scoff.

For the poor who sigh and plead, For the needy in their need, You will rise, O Lord, and save, Your promise pure, steadfast and brave.

Like silver tried in earthly flame, Your words are pure, forever the same. Purified and true, they stand, A guiding light for every man.

Keep us, Lord, from wicked ways, Preserve us through these troubled days. When vile men rise and evil reigns, Your righteous word forever remains.

In faith we trust, Your name we bless, In You, O Lord, we find our rest. Though deceit and pride may strive, In Your pure truth, our souls revive.
