Heavenly Father, tune my heart to delight in Your Word. When the voices of the world press in with their counsel, draw me back to the steady truth of Scripture. Plant me like a tree beside the rivers of Your grace, that my roots may run deep and my life may bear fruit in its season. Keep me from the way of the scornful and the seat of the careless. Let meditation on Your law shape my thoughts by day and my dreams by night. Where I am tempted to envy the seeming ease of the ungodly, remind me that their path is wind and dust. Anchor me instead in Your righteousness, that I may stand firm in the day of judgment and prosper in every good thing You have prepared for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Sovereign Lord, the nations rage and the rulers take counsel against You and against Your Anointed, but You sit enthroned in the heavens and laugh at their vain designs. You have set Your King on Your holy hill of Zion. I declare the decree You have spoken: Jesus is Your Son, begotten in power, heir of the nations, and ruler of the ends of the earth. Make me wise, O God—a king instructed, a judge taught by Your word. Teach me to serve You with fear and rejoice with trembling, to kiss the Son and find in Him my refuge. When His wrath is kindled but a little, hide me in His grace. Blessed are all who put their trust in Him; let me be numbered among them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, when trouble increases and enemies rise against me, be my shield, my glory, and the lifter up of my head. When voices whisper that there is no help for me in You, silence them with Your faithfulness. I cry to You with my voice—hear me from Your holy hill. Let me lie down and sleep in the confidence that You sustain me, and let me wake to Your mercies new every morning. Though thousands set themselves against me, I will not fear, for salvation belongs to You. Save me, O my God, and let Your blessing rest on me as on all Your people. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O God of my righteousness, hear me when I call. You have enlarged me in past distress; have mercy and hear my prayer now. When I am tempted to love vanity and seek after what is false, set me apart for Yourself and let me know that You hear when I call. Teach me to stand in awe and sin not, to commune with my own heart upon my bed and be still. Let me offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put my trust in You. When many ask who will show them good, lift up the light of Your countenance upon me. Put gladness in my heart beyond any earthly abundance, and let me lie down in peace and sleep, for You alone make me dwell in safety. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O LORD, give ear to my words and consider my meditation. Hearken to the voice of my cry, my King and my God, for unto You I pray. In the morning I direct my prayer to You and look up. You are not a God who has pleasure in wickedness; evil cannot dwell with You. I come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy and worship in the fear of Your holiness. Lead me in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face. Let me not be numbered with those whose throat is an open grave, but let me trust in You and shout for joy. O LORD, rebuke me not in Your anger, neither chasten me in Your hot displeasure. Have mercy upon me, for I am weak; heal me, for my bones are vexed. My soul is sore vexed—how long, O LORD? Return and deliver my soul; save me for Your mercies’ sake. I am weary with groaning; I water my couch with tears. Hear the voice of my weeping, for You have heard my supplication and will receive my prayer. Let me not be consumed by grief, but let me rise in the confidence that You have heard me. O LORD my God, in You I put my trust; save me from all who persecute me. Search me and know my heart; if there is iniquity in my hands, correct me. But if my cause is just, arise in Your anger and awake to the judgment You have commanded. Judge me according to the integrity that is in me, for You try the hearts and reins. Be my defense, O God, who saves the upright in heart. Let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, and establish the just. When enemies dig a pit, let them fall into it themselves. Turn their mischief back on their own heads, and let me not repay evil with evil. I will praise You according to Your righteousness and sing praise to the name of the LORD most high. Lord Jesus, my Shepherd, I confess how often I look for satisfaction in things that cannot fill me. You are the Shepherd who makes me lie down in green pastures and leads me beside waters of rest. Restore my soul where it is weary and bruised. When the path turns into the valley of shadows, quiet my fear with the certainty of Your presence. Let Your rod defend me and Your staff guide me. Spread a table of provision even where enemies press in, and anoint my head with the oil of Your gladness until my cup runs over. Let goodness and mercy be the companions of all my days, and draw me at last to dwell in Your house forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Most High God, my refuge and my fortress, in You I place my trust. I dwell in the secret place of Your presence and rest beneath the shadow of Your wings. When terrors rise by night and arrows fly by day, be my shield and buckler. Command Your angels to guard me in all my ways, and bear me up lest I fall. Deliver me from the snare and the sickness, from the lion and the serpent. Because I have set my love on You, answer me when I call, be with me in trouble, and honor me with Your salvation. LORD, it is a good thing to give thanks to You and sing praises to Your name, O Most High. I will show forth Your lovingkindness in the morning and Your faithfulness every night. You have made me glad through Your work; I triumph in the works of Your hands. How great are Your works, and how deep Your thoughts! Though the wicked spring up like grass, they shall be destroyed forever; You are most high forevermore. Exalt my horn like the unicorn’s and anoint me with fresh oil. Let my eyes see and my ears hear Your victory over those who rise against me. Plant me in the house of the LORD, that I may flourish like a palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Let me still bring forth fruit in old age, fat and flourishing, to show that You are upright, my rock, in whom there is no unrighteousness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, You reign! You are clothed with majesty and girded with strength. The world is established by Your power and cannot be moved. Your throne is established of old; You are from everlasting. When the floods lift up their voice and their waves, You on high are mightier than the noise of many waters, mightier than the mighty waves of the sea. Your testimonies are very sure; holiness becomes Your house forever. Let Your reign calm every storm within me and around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongs, show Yourself. Lift Yourself up, You judge of the earth; render a reward to the proud. How long shall the wicked triumph? They break in pieces Your people and afflict Your heritage; they slay the widow, the stranger, and the fatherless, and say, "The LORD shall not see." But He who planted the ear, shall He not hear? He who formed the eye, shall He not see? You know the thoughts of man, that they are vanity. Blessed is the man whom You chasten, O LORD, and teach out of Your law. Give me rest from days of adversity. Do not cast off Your people or forsake Your inheritance. When my foot slips, let Your mercy hold me up. In the multitude of my thoughts, let Your comforts delight my soul. You are my defense and the rock of my refuge. Bring upon the wicked their own iniquity, and cut them off in their own wickedness. LORD, I come, let me sing to You and make a joyful noise to the rock of my salvation. I come before Your presence with thanksgiving and psalms, for You are a great God and a great King above all gods. The deep places of the earth and the strength of the hills are in Your hand; the sea is Yours, for You made it, and Your hands formed the dry land. I worship and bow down; I kneel before You, my Maker. You are my God, and I am the sheep of Your hand. Today, if I hear Your voice, let me not harden my heart as in the provocation at Massah and Meribah. Keep me from erring in my heart or failing to know Your ways. LORD, I sing to You a new song; I sing to You, all the earth! I bless Your name and show forth Your salvation from day to day. I declare Your glory among the nations and Your wonders among all peoples, for You are great and greatly to be praised, to be feared above all gods. The gods of the nations are idols, but You made the heavens. Honor and majesty are before You; strength and beauty are in Your sanctuary. I give You glory and strength; I bring an offering and come into Your courts. I worship You in the beauty of holiness; I fear before You, all the earth. I say among the nations: the LORD reigns! LORD, You reign! Let the earth rejoice and the multitude of isles be glad. Clouds and darkness are round about You, but righteousness and judgment are the habitation of Your throne. Confound those who serve idols; let all worship You. Zion heard and was glad; let my heart rejoice in Your judgments. You are high above all the earth, exalted far above all gods. LORD, I sing to You a new song, for You have done marvellous things. Your right hand and holy arm have gotten You the victory. You have made known Your salvation and openly shown Your righteousness in the sight of the nations. You have remembered Your mercy and truth toward Your people; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. I make a joyful noise to You, all the earth! I sing with the harp and the voice of a psalm; I make a joyful noise with trumpets and cornet before You, the King. Lord of hosts, You are my refuge and strength, a help always near in trouble. When the ground beneath me shakes and the waters roar, keep me from fear. Be the quiet river that gladdens my soul, the God in the midst of my life who cannot be moved. Silence the raging of nations and the wars within my own heart. Teach me the holy stillness that knows You are God, that I may cease my striving and rest in Your sovereignty. Break the bow and spear of every anxiety, and let me behold Your works with reverence. You are with me; the God of Jacob is my refuge. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Merciful God, according to Your great lovingkindness, have mercy on me. Blot out my transgressions and wash me throughly from my iniquity. I acknowledge my sin; it is ever before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned. Purge me with hyssop and make me whiter than snow. Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not from Your presence or take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore the joy of Your salvation and uphold me by Your free Spirit. Open my lips, and my mouth will show forth Your praise. Lord, You are my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? You are the strength of my life. When enemies press in, make me confident in You. One thing I desire: to dwell in Your house, to behold Your beauty, and to inquire in Your temple. Hide me in Your pavilion in the day of trouble and set me on the rock of Your faithfulness. When You say, "Seek My face," let my heart answer, "Your face, Lord, I will seek." If father and mother forsake me, You will take me up. Teach me Your way and lead me in a plain path. Maker of heaven and earth, I lift my eyes to the hills and confess that my help comes from You alone. You do not slumber or sleep; You will not let my foot be moved. Be my keeper and my shade at my right hand. Keep me from the sun by day and the moon by night, from every evil that would touch my soul. Preserve my going out and my coming in, from this time forth and forevermore. Where my journeys are long and my strength is small, remind me that You who keep Israel keep me. Father, keep me from fretting over those who prosper in wrongdoing. Help me trust in You and do good, dwelling faithfully where You have placed me. Let my delight be in You above all, that the desires of my heart may be shaped by Your own. I commit my way to You—bring it to pass in Your time and Your way. Teach me to rest and wait patiently, to cease from anger and forsake wrath. Make me meek, that I may inherit the earth and delight in the abundance of Your peace. From youth to old age, let me say with David that I have not seen the righteous forsaken. Be my strength in trouble and my deliverer, for I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O Lord our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth! When I consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars You ordained, I am humbled. What is man that You are mindful of him, the son of man that You visit him? Yet You crown us with glory and honor and entrust us with the works of Your hands. Out of the mouths of babes You ordain strength to still the enemy. Lift my eyes from my smallness to Your majesty, and let my dignity rest in Your mindfulness, not my pride. Through Christ, made lower than the angels and crowned with glory, teach me to steward Your creation with reverence. How excellent is Your name in all the earth! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, I will praise You with my whole heart and show forth all Your marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You and sing praise to Your name, O Most High. When my enemies are turned back, they fall and perish at Your presence, for You have maintained my right and my cause. You sit on Your throne judging righteously. Be a refuge for the oppressed and a stronghold in times of trouble. Let me know Your name and put my trust in You, for You do not forsake those who seek You. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble, and lift me up from the gates of death, that I may show forth all Your praise and rejoice in Your salvation. Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail. O LORD, when You seem far off and trouble presses in, help me to cry out rather than give up. The wicked in their pride persecute the poor and boast that You have forgotten. But You have seen it all; You behold mischief and spite and will repay. Arise, O LORD; lift up Your hand and forget not the humble. Break the arm of the wicked and seek out their wickedness until none remains. Be the helper of the fatherless and the refuge of the poor who commit themselves to You. You are King forever; the nations perish from Your land. Hear the desire of the humble, prepare their heart, and cause Your ear to hear. Judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, in You I put my trust. When those around me say, "Flee to the mountains," keep me rooted in You. When the wicked bend their bow and make ready their arrow against the upright in heart, remind me that Your throne is in heaven and Your eyes behold the children of men. When foundations seem destroyed, let me not despair but look to You, the true foundation. Try me, O LORD, and prove me righteous. Rain Your just judgment on the wicked, but let Your countenance behold me as one of the upright. You love righteousness; make me righteous by Your grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Help, LORD, for the godly cease and the faithful fail. Vanity and flattery surround me; lips speak with double hearts. Cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks proud things. But I thank You that Your words are pure words, as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. When the poor are oppressed and the needy sigh, You arise and set them in safety. Keep me, O LORD, and preserve me from this generation. When the wicked walk on every side and the vilest are exalted, anchor my heart in Your pure and tested Word. O LORD, how long will You forget me? How long will You hide Your face from me? How long must I wrestle with sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy be exalted over me? Consider and hear me, O LORD my God. Lighten my eyes lest I sleep the sleep of death. Let not my enemy say, "I have prevailed." But I have trusted in Your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, because He has dealt bountifully with me. Turn my "How long?" into a song of trust, and let my waiting become worship. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O LORD, You look down from heaven and see that all have turned aside; there is none that does good, no, not one. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God," and corruption follows. I confess that I too have gone aside and become filthy in Your sight. Have all of us no knowledge, that we eat up others and do not call upon You? But You are in the generation of the righteous, and You are the refuge of the poor. Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! Restore Your people, and let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Save me from my own corruption and make me one who seeks You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, who shall abide in Your tabernacle? Who shall dwell on Your holy hill? Create in me the character You require: let me walk uprightly, work righteousness, and speak truth in my heart. Keep me from backbiting with my tongue, from doing evil to my neighbor, and from taking up a reproach against another. Help me to honor those who fear You and to keep my word even when it costs me. Let me not exploit the poor through usury or take a bribe against the innocent. Make me one who does these things, that I may never be moved. Root my worship in integrity and my fellowship with You in truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust. You are my Lord; my goodness extends to Your saints, the excellent in whom I delight. I will not run after other gods or take their names on my lips. You are the portion of my inheritance and of my cup; You maintain my lot. The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; I have a goodly heritage. Bless the LORD, who gives me counsel and instructs my heart in the night. I set You always before me; because You are at my right hand, I shall not be moved. My heart is glad, my glory rejoices, and my flesh rests in hope. You will not leave my soul in hell, but will show me the path of life. Hear the right, O LORD, attend to my cry, and give ear to my prayer from sincere lips. Prove my heart, visit me in the night, and try me. I purpose that my mouth shall not transgress. Hold up my goings in Your paths, that my footsteps slip not. Keep me as the apple of Your eye and hide me under the shadow of Your wings from the wicked who oppress me. Arise, O LORD, disappoint the enemy and deliver my soul. Let not my portion be only in this life, but as for me, let me behold Your face in righteousness. I will love You, O LORD, my strength. You are my rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my buckler, and the horn of my salvation. When sorrows of death compassed me, I called upon You and You heard me from Your temple. You bowed the heavens and came down; You scattered my enemies with lightning and hail. You sent from above, took me, and drew me out of many waters. You delivered me because You delighted in me. Reward me according to Your righteousness, and show Yourself merciful to the merciful. Light my candle and enlighten my darkness. Gird me with strength and make my way perfect. Your gentleness has made me great. The LORD lives; blessed be my rock. Let the God of my salvation be exalted. I will give thanks among the nations and sing praises to Your name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, the heavens declare Your glory and the sky proclaims Your handiwork. Let Your Word, perfect and sure, convert my soul and make wise my simplicity. May Your statutes rejoice my heart and Your commandment enlighten my eyes. Let Your judgments be more desired by me than gold, sweeter than honey from the comb. Cleanse me from secret faults I cannot see, and keep me from presumptuous sins that would rule over me. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Tune both sky and Scripture to make me a worshiper. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Lord, I will bless You at all times; Your praise shall continually be in my mouth. I sought You, and You heard me and delivered me from all my fears. Make my boast in You, that the humble may hear and be glad. Encamp Your angel around me as one who fears You. Help me taste and see that You are good, and teach me to trust You more. Draw near to my broken heart and save my contrite spirit. Though many are my afflictions, deliver me out of them all. Redeem my soul, and let none who trust in You be desolate—least of all me. Lord God, I make a joyful noise to You, the Maker of all. I serve You with gladness and come before You with singing. You are God; it is You who made me, and I am not my own. I am Your person and the sheep of Your pasture. I enter Your gates with thanksgiving and Your courts with praise; I bless Your name. Thank You that You are good, that Your mercy is everlasting, and that Your truth endures to all generations. Let my whole life be a joyful noise, and keep me grazing in Your pasture all my days. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. I will not forget His benefits: He forgives all my iniquities, heals my diseases, redeems my life from destruction, and crowns me with lovingkindness. He satisfies me with good and renews my youth like the eagle’s. Thank You that You are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. You have not dealt with me after my sins. As high as the heavens, so great is Your mercy; as far as east from west, so far have You removed my transgressions. As a father pities his children, pity me, for You know my frame and remember that I am dust. Let Your mercy be from everlasting to everlasting upon me. Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up, my thoughts from afar. Where can I go from Your Spirit, or flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there. Your hand leads me and Your right hand holds me. Thank You for forming me in my mother’s womb, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous are Your works. Do not let me hide from such knowledge, but invite it: search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Lord, I praise You in Your sanctuary and in the firmament of Your power. I praise You for Your mighty acts and according to Your excellent greatness. Tune my life to praise You with trumpet and harp, with timbrel and dance, with strings and pipes and loud cymbals. Let no instrument of my heart be silent before You. My soul, wait only upon God; from Him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength and my refuge is in God. Help me trust in You at all times and pour out my heart before You, for You are a refuge for me. Make my strength be in You, that passing through the valley of weeping I may turn it into a well. Carry me from strength to strength until I appear before You in Zion. Let one day in Your courts be better to me than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in Your house than dwell in the tents of wickedness. LORD, You have been favorable to Your land; You brought back the captivity of Jacob, forgave the iniquity of Your people, and covered all their sin. You turned from the fierceness of Your anger. Turn us again, O God of our salvation, and cause Your anger toward us to cease. Wilt You not revive us again, that Your people may rejoice in You? Show us Your mercy and grant us Your salvation. I will hear what God the LORD will speak, for He will speak peace to His people. Let not Your salvation be far from those who fear You. Let mercy and truth meet together; let righteousness and peace kiss. Let truth spring from the earth and righteousness look down from heaven. Let the LORD give what is good, and let our land yield her increase. Let righteousness go before You and set us in the way of Your steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Bow down Your ear, O LORD, and hear me, for I am poor and needy. Preserve my soul; save Your servant who trusts in You. Be merciful to me, for I cry to You daily. Rejoice the soul of Your servant, for to You I lift up my soul. You, Lord, are good and ready to forgive, plenteous in mercy to all who call upon You. His foundation is in the holy mountains. The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of You, O city of God. You name Egypt, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre, and Ethiopia, and say, "This man was born there." Of Zion it shall be said, "This and that man was born in her: and the Highest Himself shall establish her." O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before You. Let my prayer come before You; incline Your ear to my cry. My soul is full of troubles; my life draws near to the grave. I am counted among those who go down into the pit. You have laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. Your wrath lies hard upon me. You have put away my acquaintances and made me an abomination. Will You show wonders to the dead? Will Your lovingkindness be declared in the grave? Will Your wonders be known in the dark? Yet to You I cry, O LORD; in the morning my prayer shall prevent You. Why do You cast off my soul? Why do You hide Your face from me? I am afflicted and ready to die. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever; with my mouth I will make known Your faithfulness to all generations. Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You establish in the very heavens. You made a covenant with David and swore to establish his throne to all generations. You rule the raging of the sea and still the waves. Justice and judgment are the habitation of Your throne; mercy and truth go before Your face. You found David Your servant and anointed him; You promised to be his father and make him Your firstborn. Even if his children forsake Your law, You will not utterly take Your lovingkindness from him, nor suffer Your faithfulness to fail. Your covenant You will not break. Yet You have cast off and abhorred Your anointed; You have profaned his crown. How long, LORD? Where are Your former lovingkindnesses, which You swore to David in Your truth? Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. From everlasting to everlasting, You are God. Before the mountains were brought forth, You formed the earth and the world. A thousand years in Your sight are but as yesterday. You carry us away as with a flood; we are like grass that flourishes in the morning and withers in the evening. Our days pass away in Your wrath; we spend our years as a tale that is told. Teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Return, O LORD; let it repent You concerning Your servants. Satisfy us early with Your mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days wherein You have afflicted us. Let Your work appear to Your servants and Your glory to their children. O God, You are my God; early will I seek You. My soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and weary land. Let me see Your power and glory as I have seen You in the sanctuary. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips will praise You. I will bless You while I live and lift up my hands in Your name. Satisfy my soul as with the richest food, and let my mouth praise You with joyful lips. When I remember You on my bed and meditate on You in the night watches, be my help, that I may rejoice in the shadow of Your wings. My God and King, I will extol You and bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You. Great are You, Lord, and greatly to be praised; Your greatness has no end. You are gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and of great mercy, good to all, with tender mercies over all Your works. Your kingdom is everlasting. Uphold me when I fall and raise me when I am bowed down. Open Your hand and satisfy my desire as You satisfy every living thing. O God, as the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for You. My soul thirsts for the living God. When tears have been my food and the world asks where You are, remind me of when I went with the multitude to Your house with joy and praise. When my soul is cast down within me, let me preach to myself: why are you cast down, O my soul? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him, the health of my countenance and my God. Turn my thirst into worship and my despair into defiant hope. Bring me back to the joy of Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Out of the depths I cry to You, O Lord. Lord, hear my voice; let Your ears be attentive to my supplications. If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared. I wait for You, Lord; my soul waits, and in Your word I hope. Make me wait more earnestly than watchmen wait for the morning. Let me hope in You, for with You is mercy and plenteous redemption. Redeem me from all my iniquities and lift me from the depths to the dawn of Your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Faithful God, we incline our ears to Your law and open our hearts to the parable of Your deeds. You divided the sea and brought Your people through; You clave the rock and gave water in the wilderness; You rained manna from heaven and fed us angels’ food. Yet how often we have forgotten and grumbled, tempted You with our unbelief, and limited the Holy One of Israel with our small thoughts. Forgive us, Lord, as You forgave our fathers, for You remember that we are but flesh. Write Your wonders on our hearts and on the hearts of our children, that we may set our hope in You and not forget Your works. Thank You for choosing Zion and for the Shepherd You have raised up, who feeds us with the integrity of His heart and guides us by the skilfulness of His hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O God, when the heathen have invaded Your inheritance and defiled Your holy temple, when Your servants are given to the birds and their blood shed like water, we cry to You. We have become a reproach to our neighbors. How long, LORD, will You be angry? Pour out Your wrath on the nations that have not known You. Remember not against us former iniquities; let Your tender mercies speedily prevent us, for we are brought very low. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of Your name; deliver us and purge away our sins for Your name’s sake. Let not the heathen say, "Where is their God?" Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock and dwell between the cherubim. Stir up Your strength and come and save us. Turn us again, O God, and cause Your face to shine; and we shall be saved. You have fed us with the bread of tears; our enemies laugh among themselves. You brought a vine out of Egypt and planted it; it filled the land. Why have You broken down her hedges so that the boar wastes it? Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts; look down from heaven and visit this vine. Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand, the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself. I sing aloud to You, O God our strength; I make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob. You brought us out of Egypt, removed the burden from our shoulders, and answered us in the secret place of thunder. God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. How long will I judge unjustly and accept the persons of the wicked? Defend the poor and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy from the hand of the wicked. Let me not walk in darkness while the foundations of the earth are out of course. You have said, "Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High." Keep not silence, O God; hold not Your peace. Your enemies make a tumult and take crafty counsel against Your people. Do to them as You did to the Midianites, Sisera, and Jabin at the brook Kison. Make them like a wheel, like stubble before the wind. Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O LORD. Let them be confounded and perish, that men may know that You, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, are the Most High over all the earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, in the day of trouble, hear me and defend me with the name of the God of Jacob. Send help from Your sanctuary and strengthen me from Zion. Remember my offerings and accept my sacrifice. Grant me the desires of my heart and fulfil Your counsel in my life. I will rejoice in Your salvation and set up banners in the name of my God. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but I will remember the name of the LORD my God. When others fall, raise me to stand upright. Save me, LORD, and hear me when I call. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O LORD, I rejoice in Your strength and in Your salvation. You have given me the desires of my heart and have not withheld the request of my lips. You have met me with blessings of goodness and crowned me with Your favor. You asked and You give life, length of days, and glory. I trust in You, and through the mercy of the Most High I shall not be moved. When enemies intend evil, let their devices fail. My God, my God, when I feel forsaken and far from Your help, remember that You are holy and enthroned on the praises of Israel. Our fathers trusted in You and were delivered; I too will trust. When I am a reproach and despised, when trouble is near and there is none to help, be not far from me. Deliver my soul from the sword and save me from the lion’s mouth. I will declare Your name to my brethren and praise You in the congregation. You have not despised my affliction; when I cried, You heard. Let the ends of the world remember and turn to You, for the kingdom is Yours. Let a generation yet unborn declare Your righteousness, that You have done this. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, the earth is Yours and everything in it; I am Yours, for You made me. Who shall ascend Your hill? Give me clean hands and a pure heart. Keep me from lifting my soul to vanity or swearing deceitfully. Let me receive the blessing from You and righteousness from the God of my salvation. Make me one of the generation that seeks Your face. Lift up the gates of my heart, O everlasting doors, that the King of glory may come in. O LORD, to You I lift up my soul. I trust in You; let me not be ashamed. Show me Your ways and teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth, for You are the God of my salvation. Remember Your tender mercies and lovingkindnesses; remember not the sins of my youth, but for Your goodness’ sake remember me. Pardon my iniquity, for it is great. Teach me in the way You have chosen; let me dwell at ease and inherit Your promise. Keep my eyes ever toward You, and pluck my feet out of the net. LORD, judge me, for I have walked in integrity and trusted in You. Examine me and prove me; try my heart and reins. Let Your lovingkindness be before my eyes and lead me in Your truth. O LORD, I ascribe to You glory and strength. I worship You in the beauty of holiness. Your voice is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders. Your voice is powerful and full of majesty, breaking cedars, dividing flames of fire, shaking the wilderness, and stripping the forests. You sit enthroned over the flood as King forever. O LORD, I extol You, for You have lifted me up and not let my foes rejoice over me. I cried to You, and You healed me; You brought my soul up from the grave and kept me alive. Your anger endures but a moment; in Your favor is life. When weeping endures for a night, bring joy in the morning. Forgive my self-reliance in prosperity; when You hide Your face, I am troubled. Blessed are You, O LORD, for You forgive transgression and cover sin. Forgive me for the times I have kept silence and let my bones waste away with roaring. I acknowledge my sin to You and do not hide my iniquity. I confess my transgressions, and You forgive the iniquity of my sin. Be my hiding place, preserve me from trouble, and compass me about with songs of deliverance. Instruct me and teach me in the way I should go; guide me with Your eye. Keep me from stubbornness, unlike the horse or mule without understanding. Let mercy compass me about, for I trust in You. Make me glad in You, LORD, and let me shout for joy as one upright in heart. LORD, I rejoice in You, for praise is fitting for the upright. I sing to You a new song and play skillfully with a loud noise. Your word is right, and all Your works are done in truth. By Your word the heavens were made; You spoke, and it stood fast. You bring the counsel of the nations to nothing, but Your counsel stands forever. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. You look from heaven and behold all the sons of men; You fashion our hearts alike and consider all our works. No king is saved by a great army, no warrior by much strength, no horse by its power. Let Your eye be upon me, for I fear You and hope in Your mercy. Deliver my soul from death and keep me alive in famine. My soul waits for You; You are my help and my shield. LORD, plead my cause with those who strive with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and buckler and stand up for my help. Say to my soul, "I am thy salvation." Let those who seek my hurt be confounded and brought to confusion. Let them be as chaff before the wind, and let the angel of the LORD chase them. Let their own net catch them. My soul shall be joyful in You, LORD, and rejoice in Your salvation. All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like unto You?" Rescue my soul from their destructions. O LORD, Your mercy is in the heavens and Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. Your righteousness is like the great mountains and Your judgments are a great deep. How excellent is Your lovingkindness, O God! Let me put my trust under the shadow of Your wings. Satisfy me with the fatness of Your house and make me drink of the river of Your pleasures. With You is the fountain of life; in Your light may I see light. Continue Your lovingkindness to me and Your righteousness to my upright heart. O LORD, rebuke me not in Your wrath, neither chasten me in Your hot displeasure. Your arrows stick fast in me and Your hand presses me sore. There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your anger. My iniquities have gone over my head like a heavy burden. I am troubled and bowed down; I go mourning all the day long. Lord, all my desire is before You and my groaning is not hid from You. My friends stand aloof and my enemies seek my hurt, but I will be as a deaf man who hears not, hoping in You. I will declare my iniquity and be sorry for my sin. LORD, make me to know my end and the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am. You have made my days as a handbreadth; every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Keep me from walking in a vain show or heaping up riches without knowing who will gather them. And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. Deliver me from all my transgressions and make me not the reproach of the foolish. Remove Your stroke from me, for I am consumed by the blow of Your hand. I waited patiently for You, LORD, and You inclined unto me and heard my cry. You brought me up out of the horrible pit and set my feet upon a rock. You have put a new song in my mouth, even praise to You. Let me delight to do Your will, for Your law is within my heart. I will not hide Your righteousness within my heart but will declare Your faithfulness and salvation. Withhold not Your tender mercies from me; let Your lovingkindness and truth preserve me. When innumerable evils compass me about, make haste to help me. Though I am poor and needy, thank You that You think upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. LORD, make me one who considers the poor, that You may deliver me in time of trouble. Preserve me, keep me alive, and strengthen me upon my bed of languishing. Be merciful unto me and heal my soul, for I have sinned against You. When enemies speak evil and friends betray, be merciful and raise me up. O God, we have heard with our ears what You did in the days of old. You drove out the heathen and planted our fathers by Your right hand, not by their own sword. You are our King; command deliverances for us. Through You we push down our enemies. But now You have cast us off and put us to shame. You have scattered us like sheep and made us a byword among the nations. Yet we have not forgotten You or dealt falsely in Your covenant. Search our hearts, for You know the secrets of the heart. For Your sake we are killed all the day long. Awake, why do You sleep? Arise and cast us not off forever. Let not Your face be hidden from us. O King eternal, Your throne is for ever and ever; the scepter of Your kingdom is a right scepter. You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God has anointed You with the oil of gladness above Your fellows. Grace is poured into Your lips; You are fairer than the children of men. Help me to hearken, consider, and incline my ear, to forget my own people and my father’s house, and to worship You as my Lord. Make me glorious within, clothed with the righteousness of Christ, and bring me with gladness and rejoicing into Your palace. God, You are my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore I will not fear, though the earth be removed and the mountains fall into the sea. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God; You are in the midst of her, and she shall not be moved. When the heathen rage and kingdoms are moved, You utter Your voice and the earth melts. Help me to be still and know that You are God. You will be exalted among the nations and in the earth. LORD Most High, I clap my hands and shout to You with the voice of triumph, for You are a great King over all the earth. You subdue the nations under Your feet and choose our inheritance. You have gone up with a shout, with the sound of a trumpet. I sing praises to You, I sing praises; I sing praises to my King, I sing praises, for You are the King of all the earth. You reign over the nations and sit on the throne of Your holiness. Gather the princes of the peoples to Yourself, the people of the God of Abraham, for the shields of the earth belong to You. Great are You, LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God. Mount Zion is beautiful, the joy of the whole earth, the city of the great King. You are known in her palaces as a refuge. When kings assemble and pass by, they see and marvel and flee in terror. You break the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD of hosts: You will establish it forever. Let me think of Your lovingkindness in the midst of Your temple. Let Mount Zion rejoice and the daughters of Judah be glad. Help me walk about Zion and tell her towers, that I may tell the next generation. LORD, let my mouth speak of wisdom and the meditation of my heart be of understanding. Why should I fear in days of evil? Those who trust in wealth cannot redeem a brother or give a ransom to God. The redemption of a soul is costly. Wise and foolish die alike and leave their wealth to others. Man in honor abides not; he is like the beasts that perish. But You, God, will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for You will receive me. Let me not be afraid when one is made rich, for when he dies he carries nothing away. Let me trust not in riches but in You, my Redeemer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Mighty God, You have spoken and called the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, You have shined. You will not keep silence. I offer You thanksgiving and pay my vows to the Most High. I call upon You in the day of trouble; deliver me, and I will glorify You. Keep me from reciting Your statutes while hating instruction, from consenting with thieves or slandering my brother. Let me not mistake Your patience for approval. I offer You praise, and I order my conversation aright; show me Your salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
LORD, the goodness of God endures continually. Keep me from boasting in mischief or devising deceit with my tongue. Keep me from loving evil more than good or lying more than righteousness. Let me not trust in the abundance of riches or strengthen myself in wickedness, but make me like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in Your mercy for ever and ever. I will praise You forever because You have done it. I will wait on Your name, for it is good before Your saints. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O LORD, the fool says in his heart, "There is no God." Keep me from such folly. You look down from heaven to see if any understand or seek You; let me be one who seeks. I confess that apart from Your grace I am corrupt and have done abominable iniquity. Scatter the bones of those who encamp against Your people, and put them to shame. Oh that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When You bring back the captivity of Your people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Save me, O God, by Your name, and judge me by Your strength. Hear my prayer and give ear to the words of my mouth. When strangers rise up against me and oppressors seek my soul, remind me that they have not set You before them. Behold, You are my helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my soul. Reward evil to my enemies and cut them off in Your truth. I will freely sacrifice to You and praise Your name, O LORD, for it is good. Thank You for delivering me out of all trouble. O God, give ear to my prayer and hide not Yourself from my supplication. When my heart is sore pained and the terrors of death fall upon me, when I long to fly away like a dove, remind me that You are my refuge. When a friend betrays and breaks covenant, when words are smoother than butter yet war is in the heart, I will call upon God, and You shall save me. Evening, morning, and noon I will pray and cry aloud, and You will hear my voice. You have delivered my soul in peace. I cast my burden upon You, LORD, and You shall sustain me; You will never suffer the righteous to be moved. I will trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Be merciful unto me, O God, for man would swallow me up. When I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God I will praise His word; in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. You tell my wanderings; You put my tears into Your bottle and write them in Your book. When I cry to You, my enemies shall turn back, for God is for me. In God have I put my trust; I will not be afraid what man can do unto me. Your vows are upon me; I will render praises to You. Be merciful unto me, O God, for my soul trusts in You. In the shadow of Your wings I make my refuge until calamities pass. I cry to God Most High, to God who performs all things for me. Send from heaven and save me. My soul is among lions, yet I say: Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be above all the earth. When enemies dig a pit, let them fall into it themselves. My heart is fixed, O God; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp; I will awake early. O God, do we indeed speak righteousness? Do we judge uprightly? Expose the wickedness of our hearts and the violence of our hands. The wicked go astray from the womb, speaking lies like a deaf adder. Break their teeth, O God; let them melt away as running waters. Let the righteous rejoice when they see Your vengeance. Let it be said, "Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily He is a God that judgeth in the earth." In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; defend me from those who rise up against me. Save me from bloody men who lie in wait without cause. Awake to help me and behold. You, O LORD God of hosts, shall laugh at them and hold the nations in derision. Because of Your strength I wait upon You, for God is my defense. The God of my mercy shall go before me. Slay them not, lest Your people forget, but scatter them by Your power. Let them know that God rules in Jacob to the ends of the earth. I will sing of Your power and sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning, for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. O God, when You seem to have cast us off and scattered us, turn Yourself to us again. Heal the breaches of our land, for it shakes. You have shown us hard things and made us drink the wine of astonishment, yet You have given a banner to those who fear You. Save with Your right hand and deliver Your beloved. You have spoken in Your holiness; You claim Gilead, Manasseh, Ephraim, and Judah. Give us help from trouble, for vain is the help of man. Through You we shall do valiantly, for it is You who tread down our enemies. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth I cry to You when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. You have been a shelter for me and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever and trust in the covert of Your wings. You have heard my vows and given me the heritage of those who fear Your name. Prolong the king’s life as many generations; let him abide before You forever. Prepare mercy and truth to preserve him. I will sing praise to Your name forever, that I may daily perform my vows. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Hear my voice, O God, in my prayer; preserve my life from fear of the enemy. Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked and the insurrection of workers of iniquity. Those who whet their tongues like swords and shoot bitter words in secret, You shall shoot at with Your own arrow. Let their own tongue fall upon themselves. Let all men fear and declare Your work. Let the righteous be glad in You, LORD, and trust in You. Let all the upright in heart glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O God who hears prayer, praise waits for You in Zion. Iniquities prevail against me, but You purge them away. Blessed is the one You choose and cause to approach You, that he may dwell in Your courts. Satisfy me with the goodness of Your house. You are the confidence of all the ends of the earth; You set fast the mountains and still the noise of the seas. You visit the earth and water it; You crown the year with Your goodness. Let the pastures, hills, and valleys shout for joy and sing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I make a joyful noise to You, O God. All the earth shall worship You and sing to Your name. Come and see the works of God: He turned the sea into dry land. He holds my soul in life and suffers not my feet to be moved. You have proved me and tried me as silver; You brought me through fire and water and out into a wealthy place. I will go into Your house with burnt offerings and pay my vows. Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me; but verily God has heard me and attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor His mercy from me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
God, be merciful unto us and bless us; cause Your face to shine upon us. Let Your way be known upon earth and Your saving health among all nations. Let the peoples praise You, O God; let all the peoples praise You. Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for You judge the peoples righteously and govern the nations. Then the earth shall yield her increase, and You, even our own God, shall bless us. All the ends of the earth shall fear You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered. As smoke is driven away, drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish at Your presence. Let the righteous be glad and rejoice before God. You are a father of the fatherless and a judge of widows; You set the solitary in families. You marched through the wilderness and the earth shook. You ascended on high and led captivity captive. Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Ascribe strength to God; His excellency is over Israel. O God, You are terrible out of Your holy places; the God of Israel gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Save me, O God, for the waters have come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire; I am weary of crying. They hate me without cause and reproach me for Your sake. The zeal of Your house has eaten me up. Let not the waterflood overflow me, nor the deep swallow me up. Hear me, O LORD, for Your lovingkindness is good; turn to me according to the multitude of Your tender mercies. Draw nigh to my soul and redeem it. Reproach has broken my heart, yet I will praise the name of God with a song and magnify Him with thanksgiving. Let heaven and earth praise Him. Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD. Let those who seek my soul be ashamed and confounded. Let those who say "Aha, aha" be turned back. Let all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You, and let those who love Your salvation say continually, "Let God be magnified." I am poor and needy; make haste unto me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
In You, O LORD, I put my trust; let me never be put to confusion. Be my strong habitation, my rock, and my fortress. You are my hope from youth; You have held me up from the womb. Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth. When enemies say God has forsaken me, be not far from me; make haste for my help. I will hope continually and praise You more and more. My mouth shall show forth Your righteousness and salvation all the day. Now when I am old and grayheaded, forsake me not, until I have shown Your strength to this generation and Your power to every one to come. I will praise You with psaltery and harp; my lips shall greatly rejoice, and my tongue shall talk of Your righteousness all the day long. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Give the king Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the king’s son. Let him judge Your people with righteousness and Your poor with judgment. Let him come down like rain upon the mown grass. In his days let the righteous flourish with abundance of peace. Let him have dominion from sea to sea. Let all kings fall down before him and all nations serve him, for he delivers the needy when he cries. His name shall endure forever; all nations shall call him blessed. Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only does wondrous things. Blessed be His glorious name forever; let the whole earth be filled with His glory. Amen, and Amen. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. When my feet almost slip with envy at the prosperity of the wicked, bring me into Your sanctuary, that I may understand their end. You set them in slippery places; they vanish like a dream. Forgive my foolishness and ignorance. Nevertheless, I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. Guide me with Your counsel and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? There is none upon earth that I desire beside You. My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. It is good for me to draw near to God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
O God, why have You cast us off? Remember Your congregation, which You purchased of old. The enemy has roared in Your congregations, cast fire into Your sanctuary, and defiled Your dwelling place. There is no prophet, and we do not know how long. Yet You are my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth. You divided the sea, broke the heads of leviathan, and set the borders of the earth. Have respect unto the covenant; deliver not the soul of Your turtledove. Let the poor and needy praise Your name. Arise, O God, plead Your own cause. Forget not the voice of Your enemies. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
To You, O God, we give thanks, for Your name is near and Your wondrous works declare it. You will judge uprightly. When the earth is dissolved, You bear up its pillars. Let me not lift up my horn or speak with a stiff neck, for promotion comes from You alone. You are the judge; You put down one and set up another. In Your hand is a cup, and the wicked shall wring out its dregs and drink. I will declare Your deeds forever and sing praises to the God of Jacob. Cut off the horns of the wicked, and let the horns of the righteous be exalted. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
In Judah God is known; His name is great in Israel. In Salem is His tabernacle, and His dwelling place in Zion. There You broke the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the battle. The stouthearted sleep their sleep at Your rebuke. You are to be feared; who may stand in Your sight when You are angry? You cause judgment to be heard from heaven and arise to save the meek of the earth. Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; the remainder of wrath You shall restrain. I vow and pay to You, O LORD my God. You are terrible to the kings of the earth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
I cried to God with my voice, and He gave ear to me. In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; my soul refused to be comforted. When I ask, "Will the Lord cast off forever? Is His mercy clean gone?" remind me to remember the years of the right hand of the Most High. I will remember the works of the LORD and His wonders of old. I will meditate on all His work and talk of His doings. Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; who is so great a God as our God? You are the God who does wonders. The waters saw You and were afraid; the earth trembled and shook. Your way is in the sea, and Your footsteps are not known. You lead Your people like a flock. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
