Trusting God During Difficult Times
When life falls apart, where do we turn? The Psalms show us a trust that holds in the dark.
Trust is easy when life is easy. The real test comes in difficulty, when God seems silent and circumstances shout the opposite. The Psalms were written largely by people in such seasons, and they show us a trust that is honest, stubborn, and ultimately anchored in God Himself.
Trust does not require understanding. Psalm 46 says, "Be still, and know that I am God," in the middle of mountains crashing into the sea. Trust is not the absence of questions; it is the decision to rest in who God is when we cannot see what He is doing.
The Psalms also teach us to trust through lament. Crying out to God is an act of trust—you only complain to someone you believe can help. Lament is not the opposite of faith; it is faith on the way to hope.
In difficult times, trust grows by remembering. The Psalms repeatedly recall God’s past faithfulness to fuel present confidence. If He has been our help before, He will be our help again. Trust is memory turned forward.
